• 6/5/26Belmont Stakes 2026: Decode the Field — Reveal the Race!
Belmont Stakes 2026 Contender-by-Contender Analysis | Pace, Profiles & Saratoga Setup
The Belmont Stakes 2026 returns to Saratoga Race Course - a track where configuration makes pace and positioning more important than ever. In this video, I evaluate each contender in the 2026 Belmont Stakes field evaluating the strengths and the vulnerabilities of each horse through the lens of pace, distance, running style, and Saratoga’s unique track dynamics.
I looked at historical winners of the Travers Stakes as the Travers is run at this 1 and 1/4 mile distance at Saratoga. I found even historical factors that typically shape a winner here at Saratoga going this distance and examine how each contender fits this specific race setup. You’ll learn:
• How the Belmont Stakes 2026 pace scenario could unfold
• Which running styles are advantaged at Saratoga • Where key vulnerabilities exist in the field
• How track configuration may influence the outcome
• Why certain profiles rise or fall under these conditions Whether you’re a longtime horse racing fan or new to the Triple Crown, this analysis is designed to help you better understand the race and evaluate the Belmont Stakes contenders with clarity. Y
our 2026 Belmont Stakes Field:
1. Vitruvian Man (Trainer: Doug O’Neill) West Coast invader who is new to the Triple Crown trail. Enters the Belmont Stakes with only one win and would need to improve to take on the contenders here at Saratoga.
2. Powershift (Trainer: Todd Pletcher) Coming off a maiden win on Kentucky Derby day. He will be part of the pace scenario in the 2026 Belmont Stakes but has not been tested at distances longer than 1 and 1/16th.
3. Chief Wallabee (Trainer: Bill Mott) Talented runner with only four races and finished fourth in the 2026 Kentucky Derby. Gets 2025 Belmont Stakes winning team of Bill Mott and Junior Alvarado
4. Renegade (Trainer: Todd Pletcher): Second in the 2026 Kentucky Derby and always a fighter. He does come from behind but his trainer, Todd Pletcher, believes he is versatile. Has a top jockey with Irad Ortiz, Jr.
5. Ottinho (Trainer: Chad Brown). One of three Chad Brown trainees who has not raced since the Toyota Blue Grass At Keeneland in April
6. Growth Equity (Trainer: Chad Brown). New to the Triple Crown trail, winner of the 2026 Peter Pan, and one of two horses in the Belmont Stakes with prior Saratoga experience.
7. Commandment (Trainer: Brad Cox). Immensely talented horse with 4 wins but just didn’t have his best race in the Kentucky Derby. Can he redeem himself in the Belmont Stakes
8. Emerging Market (Trainer: Chad Brown). Coming into the Belmont Stakes with only three prior races, one was the Kentucky Derby. Threw a shoe in the 2026 Kentucky Derby and flattened in the stretch. He is looking for that premier win on Belmont Stakes day.
9. Golden Tempo (Trainer: Cherie Devaux): Winner of the 2026 Kentucky Derby but will he be able to overcome a slower pace and shorter stretch?

• 5/26/267 Factors That Define 2026 Belmont Stakes at Saratoga
Understanding this year’s Belmont starts with understanding Saratoga. With the Belmont Stakes 2026 being run at Saratoga Race Course, configuration matters. This is not Belmont Park. This is Saratoga — tighter turns, different race flow, and a different strategic profile at 1 ¼ miles.
To identify significant factors, I studied the Travers Stakes winning profile, because the Travers is also run at 1 ¼ miles at Saratoga. That makes it the closest structural comparison to this year’s Belmont.
The historical Travers data reveals clear patterns — and those patterns form the foundation of the 7 factors I use to evaluate the Belmont field. In this video, I discuss:
• Post position impact at Saratoga
• Positioning
• Sustained late energy and finishing ability
• Proven stamina at 1 1/8 miles and beyond
• Conditioning and race timing (including May preps)
• Saratoga experience
• Top jockey performance at Saratoga
This is a disciplined way to evaluate the 2026 Belmont Stakes contenders to identify strengths and vulnerabilities. Once the official Belmont Stakes 2026 field and post positions are announced, I’ll release a full contender-by-contender analysis applying all seven factors. Early field includes: 🐎 Renegade, Commandment, Golden Tempo, Emerging Market, Chief Wallabee, Growth Equity, Ottinho, Ocelli, Potente, Chip Honcho, Talk To Me Jimmy, Powershift

• 5/15/262026 Preakness Field Analysis: Not Pimlico — Not the Same Race
The 2026 Preakness Stakes isn’t being run at Pimlico — and that changes everything about how this race sets up and the result. In this 2026 Preakness preview, I evaluate how the Laurel track configuration impacts pace, positioning, and which running styles truly fit the race.
The 151st running of the Preakness remains 1 3/16 miles, but the shorter stretch, tighter run into the first turn, and projected early speed create a completely different race dynamic. In this video, I analyze:
🐎 The Laurel track setup and how it differs from Pimlico
🐎 The projected 2026 Preakness pace scenario
🐎 How compression into the first turn could shape the race
🐎 Which running styles are advantaged
🐎 And which horses truly fit this version of the Preakness
Then I go horse-by-horse through the 2026 Preakness field to evaluate each contender’s strengths, vulnerabilities, and overall race fit.
Whether you're looking for 2026 Preakness predictions, pace analysis, or simply trying to understand how the Laurel configuration impacts the race, this breakdown walks through the race architecture step by step.
Your 2026 Contenders:
1. Taj Mahal (Trainer: Brittany Russell) - Undefeated at Laurel looking for graded stakes win
2. Ocelli (Trainer: Whitworth Beckman) - Big long shot in the Kentucky Derby who stunned coming in 3rd. Still a maiden looking for his first win.
3. Crupper (Trainer: Donnie Von Hemel) - Oaklawn invader sitting on a big workout - does that signal a jump up?
4. Robusta (Trainer: Doug O’Neill) - Last to enter the Kentucky Derby. Not his best performance here or in the Santa Anita Derby but showed talent in the San Felipe
5. Talkin (Trainer: Danny Gargan) - still looking for the second win but has tactical running style, a bullet workout, and Irad Ortiz, Jr aboard
6. Chip Honcho (Trainer: Steve Asmussen) - Opted for the Preakness instead of the Kentucky Derby. Talented runner with winning Kentucky Derby jockey, Jose Ortiz aboard.
7. The Hell We Did (Trainer: Todd Fincher) -Still searching for a stakes win; second in the G3 Lexington
8. Bull By The Horns (Trainer: Saffie Joseph, Jr) - Won last time out but speed is lacking compared to the field
9. Iron Honor (Trainer: Chad Brown) - Strong two starts but then comprised in the Wood Memorial due to the outermost post
10. Napoleon Solo (Trainer: Chad Summers) - Likes the lead and can get there but can he get the distance
11. Corona De Oro (Trainer: Dallas Stewart) - A Dallas Stewart long shot can be a threat but can he stalk versus trying to take the lead
12. Incredibolt (Trainer: Riley Mott) - Strong win in the Virginia Derby and then 6th in the Kentucky Derby; second off the layoff so can improve
13. Great White (Trainer; John Ennis) - Scratched from the Kentucky Derby due to falling behind the starting gate. Can he devour the field?
14. Pretty Boy Miah (Trainer: Jeremiah Englehart) - Talented horse but has to overcome the outermost post and is going a longer distance than prior races

I studied the early 2025 Kentucky Derby points races that awarded less than 100 points to the winner and found 10 horses that have the potential to be top Kentucky Derby contenders. It is still early and with races awarding 100 points to the winner, the points landscape will change over the next few weeks leading up to Kentucky Derby 151. However, it is never too early to get to know the horses that may end up in the starting gate on the first Saturday in May 2025. Listen as I take you through the careers of each horse and why they stand out in my very early top 10. Will Bob Baffert be back in the winner's circle with either Barnes or Citizen Bull? Will Journalism write his way into the history books? Will Sovereignty reign supreme for Bill Mott? Will Coal Battle battle for the lead and bring Lonnie Briley a dream come true? Will American Promise deliver on his promise of speed and award hall of famer D Wayne Lukas another trip to the Kentucky Derby winner's circle? Will Chad Brown find his Kentucky Derby winner with Chancer McPatrick? Can River Thames bring Todd Pletcher another Kentucky Derby victory? Don't sleep on Sandman! He and Mark Casse have plans to use his come from behind super power on the first Saturday in May. Will Captain Cook progress and be in the starting gate for Rick Dutrow?
